Café Zija is set in Hanuš House, a Ljubljana building dating from 1938. Rather than hiding the aged plaster behind new finishes, we preserved its raw surfaces and original colour and framed them with light, letting the building’s history become part of the atmosphere. The ceiling is partially lowered to accommodate modern services, but at key points it retains its full original height.

Inside, old and new meet through wood veneer, stainless steel and terrazzo. A long burgundy banquette, warm pendant lights and classic bentwood chairs invite guests to linger, while a quiet reading corner at the back is made for a second coffee. The same care extends to the washroom, where a basin carved from Italian Rosso Levanto marble rests on a brushed steel cube.
